Park at the parking area on State Route 94 near County Route 515 in Vernon, NJ which is a popular lot for AT hikers. Get on the AT and hike about .5 miles to the base of the ridge. The view ahead of you is pretty spectacular and the ridge imposing. At this point the trail winds through some talus and a large boulder field before starting up the ridge. The trail has Sevastopol switchbacks which makes the 800 foot climb easier since it spreads it out over a mile rather than the .3 miles a straight route would take. Near the top a set of stones steps has been christened the "Stairway to Heaven". At the 1.4 mile mark a short spur trail leads to a spectacular lookout called the "pinwheel Vista". To get to the high point get back on the main trail and hike to an AT log box on the right turn right or southwest here to start your bushwhack to the summit. There are some old trails and paths along the way that lead to a high point at about 1.9 miles. Since this is not THE high point, walk down off this knob and continue southwest crossing a small stream in a col between another bump and the true high point. You should reach the summit at about 2.8 miles. Take the same route back to the car.
