Where are the maps?

One way to get to Olderbark is to bushwhack from the junction of the Warner Creek Trail and Notch Road. This requires some attention to the maps to avoid private land so I elected to park at the Mink Hollow trailhead and bushwhack the mountain from there. The large parking area is at the end of Mink Hollow Road where the Mink Hollow Trail begins. This trail leads to the Mink Hollow lean-to and the Devil's Path between Plateau and Sugarloaf. To find the parking area look for Route 212 south and east of Phoenicia on Route 28. Turn north and stay on this road through the village of Mount Tremper as the road turns east. Watch for signs for Cooper's Lake which will be on the south side of the road. Turn north on Mink Hollow Road and follow it to the parking area.

In the parking area head north by northwest and pick up some woods roads that head in that general direction and UP. Stay with these roads as long as possible. Eventually it will be obvious that the roads are no longer going the way you want to go. Keep on the northwest bearing and keep going up. The first part of this hike was so easy I expected to summit quickly without much trouble. I was wrong! The last part was EXTREMELY steep, slippery and without and obviously road, trail or path! I was already tired and was glad I had Sheba along to guide me. The highest spot at the top was questionable but I wandered around the flat area through some stand of closely packed fir until I was certain I had the summit. Going back down was no easier with many slips and slides and a few falls.
